Distal Biceps Rupture

CT scanning of the elbow to assess rupture of the biceps tendon
Acute rupture of the distal biceps tendon can lead to cosmetic deformity and weakness when lifting, particualrly in supination (as when you use a screwdriver)
The Surgical team in Burton have developed scanning techniques to help with planning operative procedures.
Early repair of the ruptured biceps tendon can be performed using a small surgical scar. The biceps tendon end is fixed back to the bone using a drill hole and metal button to hold it in place.
This can be done as a daycase surgical procedure under general anaesthetic or a local block regional anaesthetic (you stay awake)
